Dolphins, Manatees,Gators, Deer, Bobcats in Sarasota Florida

Nature Tours and Ecotourism in Sarasota FloridaFinish up your Sarasota stay with a champagne toast on a romantic sunset cruise - in a canoe. Or how about a guided and interpreted nature walk, kayak or camping trip customized to your interests and time frame. Walk on the Wild Side (941-351-6500), offers small group trips to most bays, estuaries and rivers in west central and south west Florida.

See diverse botanical life, abundant bird life, dolphins, manatees in season, gators, deer, bobcats, and river otters in areas not generally accessible to the general public.

You don't need previous canoeing or kayaking experience - the guides provide instruction if you need it. Prices start at $30.00 per person and are $65.00 per person for a sunset outing with wine and cheese.

The Convention and Visitors Bureau has an updated list of additional guided boat tours, fishing expeditions and dolphin tours. Contact Sarasota Convention and Visitors Bureau at 800-522-9799.

Sarasota's Celery Fields is a Birder's Paradise

Calling all birders (and birder wanabees, why not?) Well known in the birding community as an exceptional bird habitat is an area right outside of Sarasota, the Celery Fields. Rich in history, this former flood control project and site of archeological finds was a low, marshy area which was drained and where celery was grown. It has deep lakes and attracts hundreds of bird species year round.

Spring, fall and winter are best for viewing rare and other species unique to Florida, as well as migrating birds bald eagles, wild turkeys, ruby-throated hummingbirds, snow geese and peregrine falcons. It's hard to believe that this close to a busy, high-energy urban environment there is such a haven for wildlife and such a spectacular bird habitat!

Find out about birding opportunities and how to get to the Celery Fields and other birding sites from the Sarasota Audubon Society (941-364-9212)
