Sarasota's Celery Fields is a Birder's Paradise

Calling all birders (and birder wanabees, why not?) Well known in the birding community as an exceptional bird habitat is an area right outside of Sarasota, the Celery Fields. Rich in history, this former flood control project and site of archeological finds was a low, marshy area which was drained and where celery was grown. It has deep lakes and attracts hundreds of bird species year round.

Spring, fall and winter are best for viewing rare and other species unique to Florida, as well as migrating birds ­ bald eagles, wild turkeys, ruby-throated hummingbirds, snow geese and peregrine falcons. It's hard to believe that this close to a busy, high-energy urban environment there is such a haven for wildlife and such a spectacular bird habitat!
